Residents of Jushi Community to pay N1,500 each to repair transformer

Residents of Jushin Waje Community in Sabon Gari Local Government area of Kaduna State have expressed concern over the delay by the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company to fix the bad transformer in the area.

Naija Affairs Media reliably learnt that there has been no power supply in Jushin Waje Community for about four months now.

Some residents of the community who spoke to Naija Affairs Media said each house is being compelled to pay N1500 each in order to repair the transformer.

A resident, who spoke in anonymity, told Naija Affairs Media that the power distribution company, Kaduna Electric, asked the “NEPA Committee” of the area to collect the money in order for them to repair the transformer.

“They said we should pay N1,500 each, so that NEPA people will come and repair the transformer for us.

“What I don’t understand is, how can we, the consumers, pay for the maintenance of your company’s infrastructure and still pay our bills?

” First, we are yet to receive the prepaid meter we applied for. For now, they are bringing estimated bills for us, now again they ask us to pay for the repairs of the transformer. This is extortion”, says the resident.

Another residents also complained: “If MTN should have problem with their generator in this area, will they ask all the MTN subscribers in the area to gather money and pay for the repairs of the generator? We know they won’t do that. Why is this in the power sector?

” We are tired of this system. And if they bring my next bill and the net arrears goes high, it means they have been billing us even during the four months of no-light.”

The residents called on the government to look into their plight and come to the aid of the community regarding power issues.
